The idea materialized itself into manifestation when both Matt and Ryan attended a Boys & Girls Club of America benefit hosted by Magic Johnson, one of Matt’s life-long idols.
The reward of the benefit was the opportunity to join Magic Johnson for a court side game at Lakers stadium while following up with dinner after.
While this sounded amazing to both Matt and Ryan, they both were broke college students and helped hopelessly as the price reached $15,000.
After a disappointing evening, many brainstorming sessions and a couple years later the two founded Omaze.
As of today, Omaze asserts that their goal is to make giving as fun and easy as possible, so everyone wins while making a more significant impact.

How Omaze Works
Omaze works in a simple 3 step process.
First, you can navigate Omaze to identity with experiences interests you the most.
From there you can donate as little as $10 to become eligible and entered in the raffle.
After one person is picked at random as the winner, they are able to enjoy their once-in-a-lifetime experience.
According to Omaze, the money raised for nonprofits happens a few different ways.
For campaigns with Omaze talent partners, 80% of the net funds raised goes back to their charity partner while the remaining 20% belongs to Omaze.
For companies when Omaze sources and pay for the prize, an example would be a car, 50% of the net funds go to their charity partner.
According to Omaze.com, the main costs associated with the campaigns are credit card fees, video content, winner travel costs, and marketing to get the word out via social, web, radio, and tv.
In regards to their partner campaigns (fundraisers with musicians, athletes, entertainers, etc) 25% of the gross funds are used to cover the costs associated with the campaigns, which leaves 60% of the gross funds for their charity partner and 15% of the gross funds to Omaze.
Last but not least, Omaze Original campaigns (cars, travel, renovations, etc) require 70% of the gross funds to cover the cost, leaving 15% to their charity partner and 15% to Omaze.

Omaze Review Conclusion
Omaze is a difficult fundraising platform to accurately access due to the type of industry that they are involved in.
While giving back is extremely important, many consumers feel that Omaze is keeping too much off the top and more should be donated on their end.
While there have been a pattern of reoccurring complaints involving fundraising experiences that promised apparel and merchandise, there seems to be relatively no complaints regarding the once-in-the-lifetime experiences with celebrities and important world figures.
If you are considering giving to a cause through Omaze, we encourage you to learn from the complaints detailed in our review and stick solely with Omaze fundraising experiences that promise life-enriching experiences, not merchandise since that appears not to work out well.
We invite you to share any experiences, insight or feedback you may have!
Hope you will work to figure out how to give more off the top to the cause.
